The Safetywing affiliate program has generated passive income for Hobo with a Laptop steadily, month over month, since we joined back in November 2018. And with a recent change to their insurance policy for most travelers, it’s possible to keep that going during the current pandemic.
This is huge, because many other travel-related affiliate programs have been drying up, almost entirely. If you haven’t already joined the Safetywing ambassador program, now is the time.
In this article I’ll tell you how much we’ve made with the Safetywing affiliate programme to date, and the criteria required to join it.
If you’re just looking for travel insurance, you can visit Safetywing’s website directly by clicking here. You can also read our detailed explanation of their coverage here.
We recently started our own online community in partnership with some other rad influencer-types, and I’ve been working on resources to share with up-and-coming travel industry bloggers because they make up a sizeable portion of our members.
In these members-only resources I explain many of our passive income money-making strategies, tools, and our best affiliate programs.
And because Safetywing is making a very important change to their travel insurance coverage that sets them apart from just about everyone else, I thought I’d draft this article to share so I don’t need to keep repeating myself.
And then I thought —why not share this one publicly with our readers, too?
Yeah, COVID-19 threw a wrench into every travel business in existence, but it doesn’t mean the niche isn’t still profitable.
For those that still travel, insurance is high on their trip planning list. Maybe higher than anything on your average travel packing list post.
Travel bloggers should be aware; Safetywing travel insurance now covers COVID-19 treatment, if needed, as of August 2020.
This sets Safetywing apart from most, if not all, of its competitors, globally.
It’s huge for travel bloggers. Having the fiscal audacity to cover illness caused by an ongoing pandemic is brave.
And it creates a massive affiliate opportunity for bloggers in travel and tourism industries.
Currently, there’s no hard and fast criteria to join the Safetywing affiliate program, so we’re going to take from our own experience and look at where we were at when we joined.
Hobo with a Laptop hasn’t always been the household name it is today (and I hope my sarcasm is noted). Back when we signed up for the Safetywing referral program we didn’t have much going on. They didn’t ask, we didn’t tell.
Of course, since that time we’ve grown and matured quite a bit. And our sales will sort of demonstrate that.
Most referral programs follow similar criteria to that of other affiliate programs we love and earn a comfortable passive income with, like FlexOffers, TargetClick, PureVPN, AWin, Shareasale, and Printful.
In order to join the Safetywing affiliate program, we suggest you meet the following criteria:
+ At least 10,000 visitor sessions per month
+ At least 1,000 followers on social media
+ At least 500 subscribers to your email list
Competition —to say too much or not enough, it’s a balance. If I say too little, my pants are on fire. If I say where I earn all of my affiliate income, I’ve just birthed a million competitors.
Personal safety — we live in the developing world, most of the time. We wear our own branded merch, Mike is usually the only foreigner for miles, COVID has pushed people further into poverty, and when you travel full-time, informing local baddies you make a sizeable Western income is just plain stupid.
Alright, let’s get into it. Here’s a simple screen shot from our affiliate dashboard:
When you have multiple affiliate offers on one website, it really, really adds up. Like a ‘golden parachute’ –a huge plus during a pandemic, let me tell you.
